Recently, I visited the credit union where I’ve banked for years. I stood in line, reached the service window where the teller didn’t greet me in fact she barely looked up from her computer as she handled my transaction “Thanks” she said in a flat voice as she handed over my receipt. Before I had even stepped away from her window she turned to her co-worker and started a conversation about her weekend plans. It was ok, but REALLY impersonal.
In contrast, later that day I went to a local Wells Fargo branch that I frequent as part of my job. As I walked in the door, a friendly young man said “Hi! Welcome to Wells Fargo, would you care for a cup of coffee and a donut?” At the service window the teller said "Hi! I’m glad you see you today”! It always makes me smile when you're here!” She was fast and effecient. " See you next week?” she said as I was leaving. On my way out, the young man who greeted me smiled, waved “Bye! Have a good weekend!” I left the bank with a smile on my face feeling appreciated and grateful for having stopped in that day.
I also wondered why I was still doing business with the credit union.
