The benefits of working hard

Your mom was right…’A little hard work never killed anyone.’  In fact if you want to see success in any area of your life a bit of hard work is inevitable. We often think of successful people as “lucky” but chances are it wasn’t dumb-luck that got them where they are but rather the right attitude combined with a lot of hard work in the right areas.

There is a great quote about working hard by Margaret Thatcher that says ‘Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It’s not a day when you’ve lounged around doing nothing; it’s when you’ve had everything to do, and you’ve done it.’ Hard work benefits your mind, body and spirit in more ways than you can imagine. Let’s take a look at just a few of them.

Sense of accomplishment – Remember how good it felt the last time you completed a big or difficult project?  Feeling like you accomplished something during the day lets you take a deep breath, relax and sleep well at night leaving you feeling refreshed and ready to face another day.

Sense of purpose – Feeling that what you are doing has purpose and meaning can make a HUGE difference in your life. I believe there is purpose and meaning in every job. It makes getting up each day something to look forward to; you’ll enjoy your work more and may even have to remind yourself to take your breaks!

Improves work ethic – Working hard makes you appreciate it more. You know that things don’t just get done by themselves and there isn’t always going to be someone to do them for you. You’ll have to get the job done yourself. Having an appreciation for work and knowing that nothing in this world can be created or get done without it is great for evolving your work ethic.

Personal development – Sooner or later you’re going to mess something up. Think of mistakes as a learning curve for your mind. They also teach you a lesson in accountability… when you fess-up and take responsibility for what happened and fix the problem, which in turn will (hopefully) make you more reliable in the future.

The bottom line is…The harder you work, the more you get done – the more you get done, the better you feel at the end of the day.
