The 4th of July holiday makes us think of celebrations, carnivals and parades. As a country we band together, proud Americans dressed in red, white and blue, waving flags while we watch fireworks.
Bringing that same sense of pride to our job is something we can all do. Here are some ideas to help you sparkle.
Decide to give it your all. We all play an important part in the workplace. Whether you think of your job as large or small, even if it’s not the job you want to end up at, do it to the best of your abilities. The way you do your job say’s a lot about your character. If you doubt that, think about someone you feel doesn’t do a bang-up job, what does it tell you about them?
Control what you can. Chances are there is a lot you can’t control about your job. But, maybe you can influence the atmosphere with your helpfulness or sense of humor or the way you communicate. Try to give up the need to control the things you can’t change.
Enjoy yourself. If you must work for a living you might as well have a little fun while you’re there – right? It’s not against the rules. Go ahead…smile, make someone’s day, have a laugh, think how can I lighten the mood here today?
Be positive! With everyone you encounter, customers or co-workers no matter if they are delightful or surly. Try to think only optimistic thoughts, speak kind words and act in a lively manner. This comes with a bonus – A happier, less stressed YOU!
Practice taking good care of you by finding a way to relieve stress and re-energize your mind, body and spirit. This is can be as individual as you are. Maybe you like to go outside on your lunch break or get together with friends after work, volunteer, exercise or go for a bit of pampering. Whatever makes sense for your lifestyle and taste.
See how making these changes in yourself can make your workplace seem like a pretty darn good place to be, thereby attracting more customers. And attracting more customers helps your company to be a strong, robust business…and that’s good for America.
