Bad mood? Choose a new one

Have you ever noticed that when you’re in a bad mood at work, the day seems to just refuse to go your way?  It’s not a coincidence; your mood directly affects the way customers react to you every day. But, you can’t help it if you’re in a bad mood right? Actually, you can. And all you have to do is decide to “choose your mood” No, it doesn’t mean faking it or that every day for the rest of your life will be filled with rainbows and unicorns –  it means controlling the things you can to improve your day. And that – begins with your attitude. Here’s how:

  1. Always remember no one can “make” you feel anything you don’t want to. Your feelings are yours and yours alone.
  2. Pick your own mood. Yes you can – so choose a positive one! Only you can decide to leave your sorry disposition behind.  When your feel your outlook becoming less than sunny, take a minute to explore why; then simply choose to feel and react a different way. It actually is that simple.
  3. Start to see how things could work – not reasons they won’t. And stop playing the blame game with your co-workers when things go wrong. It doesn’t matter what happened, just fix it. Finding solutions instead of freaking out can put your career on the fast track as well.
  4. Have fun at work! Really, it’s ok! Smile! Encourage your customers and coworkers. Be the person everyone wants to be around and model themselves after.

An additional bonus? All this positivity you’re brewing up can’t help but spill over into your personal life as well!
