Work happier this holiday

Working in customer service can be challenging at any time of year, but the added pressure the holidays bring can make you feel stressed out and less than jubilant.  Here are some tips to keep the joy in your heart this season.

Remember that they will end – It may help to be aware that the holidays come and go.  Your schedule will eventually lighten up and you’ll go back to a more normal routine.

Simplify your schedule – Try not to overschedule your time off. If your social life is packed full of activities you’re more likely to feel burnt out on and off the job.  Say yes only those events, social outings and gatherings that are sincerely important to you.

Take time to de-stress and recharge – With everything on your to-do list it can be easy to forget to give yourself time to relax. Factor in some alone time to refresh your mind. While you’re out shopping for others pick up a little something for yourself. Whatever it takes to give yourself a little boost.

Stay healthy – Don’t neglect to look after yourself while you’re looking after your customers. The best ways to keep yourself well are to wash your hands more frequently, eat well and avoid greasy foods and keep yourself warm if you live in a cold climate.

Spread the holiday spirit – Don’t be an Ebenezer Scrooge. Unselfish behavior promotes positive emotions. Enjoy the experience of being around people in your community.  Out of the blue do something considerate for someone, donate canned goods to a shelter or simply toss a couple of bucks into the Salvation Army bucket.  By helping others you could be helping yourself.
